Level Designer

As a level designer at Squanch Games you’ll be part of developing novel and highly imaginative worlds.  You’ll work on levels at all points in their creation: paper maps, white box layouts, gameplay spaces, playtesting and iteration, and final polish.  You’ll work closely with the team to ensure that both design and artistic visions are met. This includes taking your level designs through pitch, concept, implementation, bug fixing, balance, and polish phases. 



  • Create clear, concise, and visually oriented design materials that explain your levels pacing and flow.

  • Use UE4 to build out well designed and functional white box layouts that also have great compositions and strong aesthetics.

  • Create immersive gameplay scenarios that support and enhance the core mechanics of the game.

  • Work closely with both the art and narrative teams to deliver content that meets each disciplines goals and creates a memorable experience

  • Be prepared to provide a concise and complete presentation on the core vision of your level to any audience.

  • Pitch and present designs to the team and department heads.

  • Use UE4 Blueprints to script basic level functionality

  • Address bugs and gameplay issues to assure a stable and polished product

  • Help assess the progress, quality and user friendliness of the project via methods such as usability testing, focus tests and in-house play tests

  • Provides constructive feedback on all aspects of the product; find opportunities to increase the quality of the product and advise on how that information may be implemented, or held for future products

  • 2 years of level design experience

  • Credit on one or more published titles

  • Knowledge and experience with level editing tools and scripting (Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar editors).

  • Good sense of aesthetics, design, colors and an eye for composition

  • Intermediate knowledge of Maya or other major 3D modeling program

  • Very good interpersonal skills including strong communication skills; both verbal and written skills are required.

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in the arts is a plus
